When Web authors and designers create webpages, they often specify particular font colors and sizes, typefaces, and background colors. You can override any or all of these settings, which is useful if you have limited or low vision. For example: the following colour combinations are particularly good for the visually impaired:

Black text on a yellow background

Which Browser are you using?

To find out which browser are you using There are many versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers being used by people to view websites - all browsers look and behave pretty much the same.

To find out which browser and (version of that browser) you are using, click on the Help button at the top of your browser and a list will appear.

At the bottom of the list you'll see either 'About Communicator' which means you are using a Netscape browser or 'About Internet Explorer'.

If you want to find out which version of these browsers you are using, click whichever of these comes up in your list.

How to change the font that determines how text looks on a webpage.

Click on the Tools/View menu (depending on which version of Internet Explorer you are using). When you see Internet Options click on this. On the General tab, click Fonts. In the Web page font and Plain text font lists, click the font you want. 

How to change both the colour of the text on a webpage and the background colour

Click on the Tools/View menu (depending on which version of Internet Explorer you are using). When you see Internet Options click on this.

On the General tab, click Colors. Change the settings as needed.

IMPORTANT- to ensure that your settings are used instead of the fonts chosen by a document's author always make sure you do the following:

Netscape Browser 

You can change the font that determines how text looks on a webpage 

1. Click on the Edit button at the top of your browser and choose Preferences. A dialog box will pop up.

2.On the left, click on the Fonts category under Appearance

3. To change the appearance or size of the text you see on a webpage, change the 'Variable Width Font'. Choose a sans serif font (such as Arial) to make text easier to see and change the size to '14' for example.

4. To change the text you see as you fill in a form on a webpage, change the 'Fixed Width Font' - you may want to change the size of the text by selecting '14' for example.

5. IMPORTANT- to ensure that your settings are used instead of the fonts chosen by a document's author always make sure you tick the following:

"Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts."

How to change the both the colour of the text on a webpage and the background colour

1.Click on the Edit button at the top of your browser and choose Preferences. A dialog box will pop up.

2.On the left, click on the Colors category under Appearance

3.Click a color button to change colors of unvisited links (hyperlinks you haven't already clicked are usually displayed blue), or visited links (hyperlinks you have previously clicked on to visit a page - these are usually displayed red)

4.Click a color button to change colors of text and the background of a webpage

5. IMPORTANT- to ensure that your settings are used instead of the fonts chosen by a document's author always make sure you tick the following:

"Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts."
